Below is a collection of some of my work over the years that have a bit more story behind them. Feel free to scroll and read what inspired me to create these pieces!
Given this was my last piece to do in high school, I put a lot of thought into the outcome. I chose the stippling mark-making technique, a method in which the image is comprised of thousands of stipples, or dots. I chose to stipple a frame around the image to reference the idea of a portrait of a loved one. Within the portrait itself, I chose to have the stippling dissolve to symbolize a person's legacy slowly fading with the increasing amount of years from which they have lived.
I personally love stippliing wrinkles and facial features due to its constant excitement of its own unique details and how it shows the originality that each individual human being holds. This portrait has helped me find the divide between superficial Hollywood beauty and to the true beauty of a person which is found within. Though I am young, I have noticed that beauty has been tainted into staying young forever. However, I believe the opposite. I believe that aging is the most beautiful thing to happen to a person. It shows how much they have lived, what they have felt, and cared for throughout their life.
Aging is the map to knowing a person for who they grew to be.
